This was our first year organizing efforts to help the Kaguma Education Center (KEC) in Uganda and in March we established KEC-A Village of Hope, Inc. (KEC-AVOH) as a 501-C3 non-profit organization. We established a board of directors, elected board officers and created a constitution. Our team opened a Facebook page, and established accounts for our finances. We received numerous donations from board members, friends, Go Fund Me, and Facebook Birthday Fundraisers.
When KEC-AVOH started supporting the school, it had nursery school classes, and grades 1-3 (P1-P3) with a total of 167 students.
We were pleased to provide monthly donations to KEC to support the daily operations of the school. KEC-AVOH provided funding for desks for the 3rd (P3) grade classroom, curriculum books for all teachers, along with firewood and food for school lunches. Additionally, KEC-AVOH funding paid for construction of the fourth grade classroom (P4). Board members Karen Jennings and Keith Seaman made their first visit to KEC in December. Three laptop computers were donated to the school, along with clothing, shoes and foam mattresses for students’ families. KEC-AVOH also contributed to and participated in the school graduation celebration party which was an incredibly special community event.
