Bringing hope to the village of Kaguma through education.

KEC - A Village of Hope is honored to be a recognized Combined Federal Campaign Charity (CFC# 24195). This designation signifies our commitment to providing crucial support and services to those in need. Through the generosity of federal employees participating in the campaign, we are able to further our mission of empowering individuals and families facing adversity. Being part of the Combined Federal Campaign allows us to expand our reach and impact, offering hope and assistance to even more individuals seeking a brighter future. We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this important initiative and are dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Our objective is to support the Kaguma Education Centre (KEC) by helping to provide the necessary resources to sustain the current school, purchase land, and build a new model primary school: Nursery through P7.

Through education we raise awareness of social and community concerns that impact children and their families, with the goal of creating a learning and caring environment for all.

Curriculum and Educational Materials

When we started working with KEC, they only had one set of textbooks for each classroom. We work with school leaders to ensure that students have access to current textbooks that are age appropriate. KEC abides by Ugandan curriculum requirements. In 2021, we achieved our first goal of providing one set of textbooks for every two students with the help of a generous donation from a corporate sponsor.

We believe in hands-on learning and that each student should be able to see and read the materials that they are being taught. Besides having required textbooks, we want to build a library with hundreds of books so they can enjoy the love of reading.

Education happens within the context of a larger community in Kaguma. Our approach extends beyond the school to help ensure students have the necessary support to do their best learning. We want to sensitize the community about health related issues, such as healthy eating habits and physical and personal security.

We realize that we have many families that are unable to pay full tuition for their children. We are evaluating sustainable models to help bring jobs to families, so they have the resources necessary to provide for their children’s education.

Supporting Education and Sustainability

We are supporting the Kaguma Education Centre (KEC) by providing resources to sustain the current temporary school, by providing scholarships and scholastic materials, paying teachers, increasing the number of grades to P7. We also provide assistance in addressing social concerns that affect the children and their families, thereby creating an environment of learning and community.

When we started, the school only went to the 3rd grade/P3; today we have three Nursery classes and grades P1-P7, a fully functioning primary school. We seek to provide education to all boys and girls in the community, regardless of their abilities or socioeconomic status. We seek to find solutions for quality of life issues for students with disabilities.

All of our teachers are registered teachers with the Ministry of Education. We aim to continued educating for our teachers by providing scholarships to pursue higher levels of academic achievement, to further support our students and community. We endeavor to use the latest technologies and teaching methods to help make our classes engaging and successful.

Organizational Leadership and Partnerships

We work with the KEC-Uganda Board of Directors as advisors to help solve their issues, provide input for short and long term planning, and broaden their community influence. We also assist with school administration.

Our goal is to gain partnerships in Uganda and in the United States to help achieve our educational and community support goals.
