2019 Review

This is one of the newer classrooms with a higher ceiling and the children are in single desks.

In February 2019 enrollment at the school had grown to 257 students. Our board added two members. KEC-AVOH established a website and began using SLACK as our internal communications platform. Our Facebook viewership increased. We also started conducting quarterly Joint board meetings between the KEC Board in Uganda and the KEC-AVOH board (US) to help us better understand KEC’s most pressing issues. We are encouraging KEC Uganda board members to develop relationships with local leaders with the goal of seeking additional assistance for the school. KEC-AVOH continued to use Facebook to solicit donations for KEC, during birthdays and special occasions.
We continued to provide monthly donations to help students who were not able to pay tuition. By October we increased our monthly contribution by 50% to give the teachers a pay raise and to fund expenses for food for families.
KEC-AVOH funding paid for construction of the fifth grade (P5) classroom.  We provided funding for sixty-three student uniforms, scholastic materials and supplies and firewood used for cooking daily lunches.
We also purchased a water tank and hired a team to ensure the water was safe for the children and staff to drink. At year end, KEC-AVOH again contributed to the graduation ceremony celebration and provided funding to purchase rice for needy families in the Kaguma community.
